THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE 2009'S NATIONAL PIT BULL AWARENESS DAY A SUCCESS!

The afternoon of Saturday, October 25 was filled with games, education, and fun. The public had an opportunity to meet and mingle with 3 pit bull ambassadors and we hope that we were able to breakdown stereotypes that haunt this breed. We met a lot of pit bull parents who agree: PUNISH THE DEED, NOT THE BREED!

We look forward to hosting a bigger and even better pit bull event in October 2010. Stay tuned for more details!

Meet Belle, our first investment in time and energy as an organization. Belle, a sweet and gentle dog, spent several weeks of her life in an animal shelter. She had been returned once and no new adoption prospects were on the horizon. Then a rescue group offered to take Belle in, and thanks to your support, we were able to transport her to a foster family. The family was so taken by Belle, that they immediately adopted her. Belle lived a good life with her family, complete with rhinestone-studded collars, a fenced-in yard, and children to cuddle with every night. She recently passed away unexpectedly due to cancer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but we are grateful that she was able to spend the last few months of her life in a place that she was comfortable and well cared-for.

"I ALREADY HAVE 2 DOGS. I CAN'T ADOPT ANY MORE."

Does this sound like something you'd say?
There are still plenty of ways to help homeless pets!

***
Sponsor a dog (this is a monthly or one-time contribution to help care for a pet while they are waiting for their forever home)
***
Foster a dog (foster families provide a home for a homeless pet until an adoptive family comes along)
***
Volunteer to transport, help with fundraisers, spread the word about our services
***
Have a group? Consider one of our educational presentations!
***
Donate to our tax-deductible cause so that we can help more animals
***
Encourage friends and family to adopt their next pet
***
Spay/Neuter ALL of your pets. Contact us for information on financial assistance with spay/neuter

Who's that busy little bee? It's Carmel, and she's all dressed up in time for her first Halloween! Carmel was adopted after several months of shelter life. Now she's enjoying her daily neighborhood walks, squeaky toys and general pampering from mom and dad. Way to go, Carmel!

In September we had a booth at Woofstock in Harrisburg, and all-day dog-centered event. We brought shelter dogs (from left-right) Sydney, Rusty, and Maisy along for the day out. They enjoyed pets from visitors to our booths and met lots of other dog friends. We wish Sydney, Rusty, and Maisy the best of luck in their new homes....they are all very special dogs!

They've done it! Our favorite beagles, Redds and Hammer, have found a home....TOGETHER! They have come a long way from the hot July day when they were brought to the shelter in the bed of a truck, sitting tightly in makeshift chicken-wire crates in the scorching heat. Redds and Hammer have never known what it's like to live in a house, since their former "family" kept them outside. Now, this father and son canine duo are learning to live INSIDE, where they can be part of their new family. Oh, and did we mention that have a fenced in yard to romp and play together in?

We've been busy visiting elementary schools to present animal welfare topics to school children in our area. Recently, we spoke to a group of students about how to safely approach an animal and myths/opinions about animals.
